Great story Michelle - and thanks for your input iCalvyn. Indeed, branding does require capital, however, creativity can go a long way in developing a brand with little to no cost. In fact, some of the most successful campaigns have been grass root based.

sometimes a little imagination goes a long way. one of the most unique branding approaches i've ever seen was used by Time Warner cable when they came to the Beaumont-Pt.Arthur area. For weeks there were newspaper ads with nothing - absolutely nothing but that eye-of-horus-looking logo of theirs. no one knew what it was. when they unveiled a random billboard with that symbol on it near Interstate 10 it caused a traffic jam.

it was probably 8 weeks before we ever had a NAME to put with that symbol but you can be sure everyone KNEW the symbol!
